In January 2012, Matt Trejo and I began studying Gracie Jiu Jitsu together. Learning the step-by-step requirements of the Gracie Combatives course, we had to learn 36 different techniques (with several variations of each) encompassing four key positions: mount, side mount, guard, and stand-up techniques. After 15 months of consistent training, the two of us were promoted to Blue Belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu in May 2013.
As of August 2013, we have now begun working on the Blue Belt stripe 1 requirements which consist of an additional 60 more techniques just to earn the first stripe. The techniques for Blue Belt stripe 1 are broken down into seven positional chapters: mount, side mount, guard, half-guard, back mount, leg locks, and standing.
A lifelong journey into Gracie Jiu Jitsu continues.
