Today, three students from Seabrook Martial Arts Academy competed at the National Martial Arts Circuit (NMAC) tournament in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. All three students were very successful.
Ryan Welsh won 1st place in Black Belt weapons, 2nd place in Black Belt team forms, and 3rd place in Black Belt fighting.
Dana Broadhead won 1st place in Black Belt fighting and 4th place in Black Belt forms.
Jennifer Brock won 1st place in Kyu Belt forms, and also went on to win the Grand Championship in 15-adult forms.
Congratulations to all of you!
Seabrook Martial Arts Academy has been serving London, Ontario, since August 1995. All classes are taught by 7th Degree American Kenpo Karate Black Belt, Jamie Seabrook. Unlike many schools that will promote young children to black belt, here at Seabrook Martial Arts Academy you will earn your rank through years of commitment. Our focus is street self-defense, not sport.

Logging Your Training Routine
Hi Everyone! Happy New Year!
As a lot of you already know, one thing that I highly recommend is logging your martial arts training routine. I have been doing this on a daily basis for the past 9 years, and it has helped motivate me to practice more, work out harder, and to balance my training consistently in all areas (e.g., forms/sets, techniques, stand-up fighting, ground-fighting, weapons, and so on).
One of the biggest changes to my 2012 workout routine is that I started training in Gracie Jiu Jitsu in early January 2012. I am going to write a lot more about this journey in a future blog, but for now it will suffice to say that it has made my American Kenpo skills much stronger. I also started training with the kettlebell 3 days per week to improve my strength.

December 8th, Bradford, Pennsylvania CKF Event
On December 8th, Matt Trejo and I went to Bradford, Pennsylvania to train with my American Kenpo instructor, CKF President, Sean Kelley. Mr. Kelley taught a 2 hour seminar on Long Form 4, and broke down the finer details of Protecting Fans through to Gathering Clouds. In the second seminar, he taught Glancing Spear, Thrust into Darkness and Deceptive Panther. A special thanks goes out to Associate Professor, Michael Miller, for hosting the event.
I have uploaded a couple of pictures from the event.
